Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Minister of Communications and Digital Affairs (Menkomdigi), Meutya Hafid, revealed that nearly 1 million TikTok accounts in Indonesia have been blocked or deactivated.

The figure represents the outcome of enforcement actions against underage user accounts conducted by the platform up to early April 2026.

Meutya stated that TikTok is the first platform to report the handling of children’s accounts in Indonesia. Based on the report as of 10 April 2026, TikTok has deactivated hundreds of thousands of user accounts that do not meet the age requirement.

“And we also note, and this makes TikTok the first platform to report that as of 10 April 2026, TikTok has deactivated 780,000 accounts of children under 16 years old in Indonesia,” Meutya said during a press conference at the Komdigi Office on Tuesday (14/4/2026).

She assessed this step as a positive initial achievement in efforts to protect children in the digital realm. The government also appreciates TikTok’s openness in reporting the number of accounts that have been addressed.

“This is an initial victory step for the public, parents, and children in Indonesia. And once again, we appreciate TikTok for reporting early on the number of accounts that have been successfully taken down,” she said.

Nevertheless, Meutya noted that the government’s data still refers to the 10 April report. Considering the enforcement trends, the number of accounts taken down is estimated to be approaching 1 million.

“We don’t have data for today yet, because this is data from 10 April. But we are calculating from the average takedown rate, so it should be nearly 1 million as of today,” she said.

The government is also encouraging other digital platforms to follow similar steps.

“We also convey that we hope this will emerge from other platforms as well, to promptly report the number of accounts that have been handled or taken down,” she concluded.
