1.5-Metre Flood in Ciracas Leaves Piles of Rubbish on Tanjung Street
JAKARTA - A flood reaching 1.5 metres on Saturday (21/3/2026) caused rubbish to pile up on Tanjung Street, RT 08 RW 05, Ciracas Ward, East Jakarta.
Kompas.com observations at the site on Wednesday (25/3/2026) showed that the rubbish was dominated by household items, such as wardrobes, mattresses, and shoes. The rubbish, which had been piling up for several days, was still wet and emitting a pungent odour.
Several residents were seen dismantling stacked bed frames to retrieve usable wood.
The piles of rubbish began to be collected by Public Infrastructure and Facilities Handling Officers (PPSU) and the Environmental Health Implementation Unit (Satpel LH) of Ciracas Subdistrict.
The rubbish was transported using pickup trucks to Temporary Disposal Sites (TPS).
Secretary of RT 08 RW 05 in Ciracas Ward, Djarot, said the piles of rubbish came from residents’ homes after cleaning up flood remnants.
He explained that the flood receded on Sunday morning (22/3/2026), and residents immediately began cleaning.
Djarot added that rubbish collection only took place on Wednesday morning due to queues at the Rambutan Village TPS and the Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST) in Bantargebang.
“Usually, it’s immediate; the night of the flood, it’s collected the next morning. But this time, it was delayed because of issues at the final disposal site, and at the holding areas near the terminal (Kampung Rambutan),” he explained.
