Depok, West Java – The problem of potholes and accident risks on the Gandaria-Cilodong-Sawangan road in Depok city extending to Parung-Kemang in Bogor, West Java, continues to pose a hazard to road users.

Despite ongoing repair efforts, budget constraints have prevented permanent repairs through concrete road (rigid pavement) reconstruction from covering the entire 25.1-kilometre stretch.

Rina Kumala Sari, Head of the National Roads Implementation Agency (BBPJN) for DKI Jakarta-West Java, stated that the agency is currently working on a preservation package for the road section.

“We are currently working on a preservation package on the Gandaria-Cilodong road, which covers reconstruction repairs spanning 300 metres on both sides. Additionally, we are addressing landslides and filling in road potholes,” Rina explained on Saturday (28 February 2026).

Rina attributed the main cause of pothole damage in this area to structural differences between fast lanes and slow lanes. Currently, some fast lanes still use asphalt (flexible pavement), whilst the other side already uses concrete (rigid pavement). This gap between the two structures frequently creates potholes, particularly during heavy rainfall, endangering drivers.

Beyond structural inconsistencies, poor drainage systems along the road section also accelerate road deterioration. Water that does not drain properly becomes a major threat to asphalt durability.

According to BBPJN calculations, Rp 239 billion is required to complete repairs and full road reconstruction across the 25.1-kilometre stretch from Gandaria, Cilodong, to Cimanggis.

“We have already submitted a proposal to the central government; hopefully next year we will be allocated a package with a larger budget so that this concrete work can cover a longer stretch,” Rina added.

As context, the current work package is valued at approximately Rp 13 billion, which is considered severely insufficient for undertaking drainage improvements alongside comprehensive concrete reconstruction.

“As of yesterday, we have filled 1,200 potholes, leaving 263 remaining. With our patching team working continuously, we are targeting completion of all potholes within the next five days,” she explained.

Beyond pothole patching, the agency is also clearing roadside vegetation and normalising drainage systems to ensure optimal functioning.

All maintenance work is targeted for completion ten days before Eid to ensure road user comfort and safety.
