1.4 Million Travellers Expected to Enter Lombok Island Ahead of Nyepi and Eid al-Fitr 2026
Approximately 1.4 million homebound travellers are estimated to arrive on Lombok Island ahead of Eid al-Fitr and Nyepi celebrations in 2026. Meanwhile, around 1.2 million people are expected to depart from Lombok during this period.
The Deputy Regent of West Lombok, Nurul Adha, disclosed these projections based on findings from a coordination meeting with the Minister of Transportation, Dudy Purwaghandhi. Adha stated that the figures encompass both sea and air routes.
“These numbers were communicated by the Minister based on a survey conducted by the Ministry of Transportation, covering all modes of transport by sea and air,” said Adha on Monday (2 March 2026).
The West Lombok District Government, he explained, will establish security posts along the homebound travel routes at several strategic locations, including Lembar, Narmada, Gerung, and connecting routes to Central Lombok, North Lombok, and Mataram City.
According to Adha, these measures are being taken to anticipate the surge in traffic flow during the homebound travel period. Notably, West Lombok has two major ports that handle passengers from Bali and Java islands.
The Head of the West Lombok Transportation Department, M Hendrayadi, predicted congestion of passengers at Lembar Port during this homebound period. However, he continued, this would not pose a problem as long as vessel docking access remains available.
“We have coordinated with the Port Operations Unit (UPP). There may still be some congestion, particularly since it overlaps with Nyepi. However, we are committed to maintaining vessel docking access,” said Hendra.
The former Head of Education and Culture of West Lombok explained that additional ferry fleets would be deployed to manage the homebound traffic. According to him, ferry services at Lembar Port could potentially increase by two trips, reaching a total of 10 trips ahead of Nyepi and Eid al-Fitr.
Hendra confirmed that various facilities, including street lighting (PJU) in strategic areas of West Lombok, have been inspected since before Ramadan. This is to accommodate travellers who journey during night-time hours.
