Over 1,300 families in Solok Regency, West Sumatra, have withdrawn from receiving social assistance because they feel economically capable and independent.

Solok Deputy Regent Candra stated that more than 1,300 residents voluntarily removed themselves from the list of social aid recipients, as they consider themselves financially able.

He explained that this data was obtained after the Solok Regency government implemented transparency measures through a programme to label homes of social assistance recipients.

This policy was introduced to allow the public to openly know who the government aid recipients are.

“Based on the report from the Head of the Social Affairs Office, together with the Regent, we went directly to the field and carried out labelling of homes for aid recipients. The aim is to increase transparency,” said Candra, quoted on Sunday, 10 May 2026.

The Solok Regency government continues to strengthen its commitment to realising targeted social assistance programmes through accurate and verified data updates.

These efforts were discussed in a verification and validation data discussion with the Solok Regency Central Statistics Agency (BPS) held at the Deputy Regent’s Official Residence in Solok.

Candra also emphasised that data synchronisation and updates are important steps to ensure that all government assistance programmes are truly received by entitled communities.

According to him, the Solok Regency government, together with BPS, the Social Affairs Office, Family Hope Programme (PKH) assistants, and field officers, continues to carry out comprehensive improvements and data verification.

“Alhamdulillah, for the West Sumatra region, Solok Regency is one of the areas that is quite good in conducting updates and data revisions. This is thanks to the strong collaboration between the local government, BPS, the Social Affairs Office, as well as PKH colleagues and field officers,” he said.

He explained that data validation is one of the main keys in supporting the effectiveness of poverty alleviation programmes and social assistance distribution to avoid mis-targeting.

Meanwhile, the Head of BPS Solok Regency, Bambang Suryanggono, expressed appreciation for the synergy that has been built between the Solok Regency government and BPS so far.

He hopes that this cooperation will continue to be strengthened to improve the quality of regional development data and support various government programmes based on accurate data.
