Immigration Authorities Impose New Photo and Interview Requirements for Foreign Residents Extending Stay Permits
The Directorate General of Immigration under the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Services has established new regulations for the processing of stay permits for foreign nationals in Indonesia. Referring to Circular Letter Number IMI-417.GR.01.01 of 2025, which will take effect from 29 May 2025, foreign nationals residing in Indonesia will be required to have their photograph taken and undergo an interview at an immigration office when applying for stay permit extensions.

Indonesia Will Struggle to Attract Investment Unless Two Key Obstacles Are Addressed
Jakarta: Mining and energy observer Ferdy Hasiman has assessed that Indonesia will find it difficult to attract investment as long as the government fails to address problems faced by investors, namely interference from mass organisations (ormas) and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), as well as unclear licensing regulations. The Ministry of Investment and Downstream Industries/Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) has stated that Indonesia is targeting a position among the world’s top five electric vehicle battery producing nations by 2040. According to BKPM Deputy for Investment Implementation Control Edy Junaedi, in addition to the EV battery production target, Indonesia also aims to become the world’s second-largest stainless steel producer by 2040.

Immigration Authority Tightens Residence Permit Rules for Foreign Nationals in Indonesia
JAKARTA - The Directorate General of Immigration under the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections has established new regulations for managing residence permits for foreign nationals in Indonesia. Referring to Circular Number IMI-417.GR.01.01 of 2025, effective from 29 May 2025, foreigners in Indonesia will be required to attend in-person photo sessions and interviews at immigration offices when applying for residence permit extensions.
