Recent floods in North Sumatra have severely fragmented the habitat of the Tapanuli orangutans, the world's most vulnerable ape population with only 760 individuals remaining, which was already under pressure from plantation expansion, logging operations, and infrastructure projects including the North Sumatera Hydro Energy facility.
