But fund managers who specialise in Asian shares say the archipelago presents investment opportunities every bit as good as China and India over the long term. Indonesian investment agency to buy 7% of Newmont Indonesia

by Karima Anjani JAKARTA (Reuters)The Indonesian government said on Sunday that state investment agency Pusat Investasi Pemerintah (PIP) would buy a 7 percent stake in Newmont Mining Corp's Indonesian unit, paving the way for an initial public offering for the unit in coming months. Denver-based Newmont and Japan's Sumitomo Corp are the majority owners of PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara (NNT), which runs the Batu Hijau copper and gold mine in West Nusa Tenggara province.

German firm to invest $900m in West Papua

China to Invest in Energy-saving Lamps

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The Industry Ministry has called on Chinese businessmen to invest in energy-saving lamp (LHE) components to support the local industry. “Some businessmen plan to expand their LHE components factory to Surabaya,” Budi Darmadi, the Industry Ministry’s leading technology-based industries director general, said in Jakarta last weekend. However, Budi could not specify the amount of investment.

Foreign investors eye infrastructure investment in Indonesia

JAKARTA,(Xinhua)The Indonesia International Infrastructure Conference and Exhibition (IIICE) from April 12-14 concluded on Thursday with foreign investors' commitment to developing infrastructure in the country. Suryo Bambang Sulistiyo, chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) said that the commitments cover sectors of water, toll road and power plant. "The foreign commitments are from India, China, South Korea and Japan.

Australian trade minister visits Indonesia

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Australian Trade Minister Craig Emerson will this week visit Jakarta for talks with Indonesian counterpart Mari Elka Pangestu. A media release from the Australian Embassy in its official website said Emerson`s visit to Indonesia as Trade Minister would be the first of its kind, and come as Australia and Indonesia prepare negotiations on a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
