No Indonesian islands sold: Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Ministry

The Indonesian public was shocked at news that three islands in Mentawai, West Sumatra, were sold online via a Canadian website, for prices ranging between US$1.6 million and $8 million. The islands sold were reportedly Makaroni, Siloinak and Kandui Islands.

Riau offers islands to foreign investors

Riau Islands Governor Ismeth Abdullah said on Sunday that his administration is inviting foreign investors to manage islands in the province.“We will conduct the process transparently and according to the law. We want to avoid foreigners from managing the islands secretly,” Ismeth argued.
