Exposition on Bamboo Products Design
TEMPO Interactive, Yogyakarta:The Affandi Museum in Yogyakarta is featuring a bamboo products design exposition from December 14 to 17. The products displayed consist of musical instruments, souvenirs and toys created by 21 finalists of the 2009 Awi-awi Mandiri competition. Awi-awi Mandiri is a bamboo products design competition organized by the cultural workshop Saung Angklung Udjo in Bandung, in collaboration with Bank Mandiri.

Unilever cuts palm oil purchases from Indonesia's PT Smart
Unilever announced it was suspending future purchases from palm oil supplier PT Smart. The move followed allegations that the Indonesian company's plantations are contributing to the destruction of high conservation value forests and expanding onto peat lands. Greenpeace's Executive Director John Sauven says Unilever's decision could represent a defining moment for the palm oil industry.

Regions still lack quality in investment-related services
Most regional administrations in the country are still lagging in the quality of services given to investors, a survey carried out by the Regional Autonomy Watch (KPPOD) reveals. A survey, conducted in 291 regencies and cities across the country, shows that the quality of regional investment support was far below expectations in 2009, although eight years after the enactment of the regional autonomy law.

FTA to benefit both sides: China
China ambassador to Indonesia Zhang Qiyue said Monday the under-discussion free trade agreement (FTA) between ASEAN and China would help both sides to obtain goods and services and attract investment. "This FTA will bring many opportunities for both sides. FTA is not only about goods and commodities, but services and investment," Zhang said in his speech at the Finance Ministry during a loan agreement between Bank of China and state power firm PT PLN.

RI-China FTA rules unlikely to be delayed: China says
While local industries are seeking a delay in the full implementation of the free trade agreement (FRA) with China, to start in January, China says this stands little chance of succeeding. The heads of agreement for the Indonesia-China FTA - which forms part of the wider ASEAN-China FTA - was signed in late 2004. Its full implementation will start on Jan. 1 when some tariff barriers for certain product categories, such as several textiles and garment products will be fully dismantled.

Sri Mulyani: RI`s economy to perform better next year
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati has expressed optimism the domestic economy in 2010 will grow at a faster pace than this year`s depending on banks' soundness and credit chanelling. "I believe the Indonesian economy will perform better next year," she said after the signing of loan agreements between state electricity company PT PLN and a number of banks here on Monday.
