Japanese investors see power crisis in RI only temporary
Tokyo (ANTARA News) - Investors affiliated to the Japan-Indonesia Business Association of Kansai (JIBAK) said the present electricity crisis in Indonesia was only temporary and the Indonesian government was coping with it immediately. "We see it as a temporary problem which will be resolved by the Indonesian government quickly. After all, we also see concrete efforts being made by the Indonesian government to overcome it," the chairman of JIBAK , Hajime Konshita, said here on Wednesday.

Tax office to bear brunt of planned tax rate cuts
Aditya Suharmoko, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta Indonesia may lose out on Rp 40 trillion (US$4.35 billion) in potential tax revenue next year if a planned income tax reduction scheme is put into effect, the directorate general of taxation says. The income tax bill is currently under deliberation at the House of Representatives. "The estimated potential loss is about Rp 40 trillion.

Poor bureaucracy shackles RI trade
The Jakarta Post, Jakarta Indonesia has low tariffs to encourage trade but fails to provide good bureaucratic procedures and law enforcement, a World Bank report says. The report, World Trade Indicator 2008, shows that Indonesia has low import tariffs and good trade facilitation, but still scores poorly in providing the necessary supporting conditions for efficient business. All the factors put Indonesia at 68 of 160 countries in terms of trade outcome.

Bekasi Maintains Retributions from Foreign Workers
Wednesday, 16 July, 2008 | 15:28 WIB TEMPO Interactive, Bekasi: The Bekasi regency government is maintaining retributions from foreign workers in Bekasi amounting to US$100 per month each as regional revenue. Head of Work Requirement Section at the Manpower Department, Otang Santonomi, said the central government plans to take over the retributions. “We will not let this happen,” Otang told Tempo today (16/7).
