President Yudhoyono invites Asian, European bizmen to invest in Indonesia

Beijing (ANTARA News) - Visiting Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has invited Asian and European investors to invest in various fields in Indonesia. "I invite you to invest in various business opportunities in Indonesia," President Yudhoyono told hundreds of Asia and European businessmen at the 11th Asia-Europe Business Forum here on Thursday. The business forum was organized in conjunction with the 17th Asia-Europe Summit (ASEM) from October 24-25, 2008.

Coffee Exports Failed to Reach Target

According to Indonesian Coffee Export and Industry Association chairman, Hassan Widjaja, the decline was due to the global financial crisis and speculators. He explained that the price of Robusta coffee went down to US$ 1,7 per kilogram from US$ 2,2 early this year.

Fishery Industry Reduces Operating Hours

He said US demand for Indonesian fishery products have plunged by 30 – 40 percent while demand from European markets have declined by 10 percent. This has forced several companies to reduce their operating working hours.

Furniture dominate transactions in Indonesia Trade Expo

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Furniture dominated the first two-day transactions in the 23rd Indonesia Trade Expo which was opened by President Soesilo Bambang Yudhoyono on October 21, 2008. "The transactions reached US$ 5,64,281 and was dominated by Spanish, Greek, Italian and British buyers with the largest portion came from furniture (64.3%), handicrafts (14.2%), and cosmetics and herbal products (8.8%)," Bachrul Chairi, Head of National Agency for Export Development said here Thursday.

Indonesian canned tuna exports to US down 40 pct

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia`s canned tuna exports to the US have fallen by up to 40 percent since the financial crisis engulfed the latter, the Indonesian Association of Canned Fish Producers (APIKI) said. The US, along with Europe and Japan were the main market for Indonesia`s tuna and therefore, the impact of the financial crisis engulfing the countries was inevitable, APIKI Chairman Hendri Sutandinata said here on Wednesday.

Indonesia exports prospective in Middle East, New Zealand markets

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Director General for Asia-Pacific and African Affairs at the Foreign Affairs Ministry Primo Alui Joelianto said Indonesian non-oil and gas exports to the Middle East as well as to New Zealand have good prospects, reports said here on Thursday. In the opening of Indonesia, Middle East, and New Zealand Business Forum on the third day of the 23rd Indonesian Trade Expo Indonesia, Joelianto said Indonesia needs to increase trade cooperation with these countries.
