Bakrie Telecom users close to 3 million
PT Bakrie Telecom (Btel) -- the operator of CDMA brand Esia and wireless telecommunications services Wifone and Wimode -- reported a 118.7 percent increase in third quarter net profit from a year earlier on the back of increasing numbers of subscribers.

Bali governor asks people to conserve endangered seaweed
Nusa Penida, Bali (ANTARA News) - Governor of world renown island tourist of Bali, Dewa Beratha, has asked farmers in Nusa Penida islet to conserve endangered seaweed called spinosum and increase cultivation of the plant. In a working visit here on Wednesday, Beratha said the spinosum endangered water plant, which was only found in coastal areas in Nusa Penida islet, some 19 miles southeast of Denpasar, must be conserved.

President asks companies to create clean energy
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has called on energy companies in the country to create clean energy in an effort to anticipate global climate change. "The climate is changing for the worse. Therefore, we have to try to overcome it," the president said in his address at the opening of an Asia Pacific Gas and Oil Conference and Exhibition here on Tuesday.

i do often wonder how humungous organisations like telkom and PLN actually work, given the general culture of technical and organisational incompetence that is exhibited daily in indonesia. there is a vast transport system -- trains, planes and ships -- that works the majority of time, as well as other other huge infrastructural systems. the fact is, for all our complaints, things work a lot better in indonesia than they really should!

They got it to work in India Chewwy - the backbone was used by tobacco traders who paid for it to allow farmers to keep in touch regarding crop information . Strange isn't it? people take the piss out of PAM/PLN and Telkom , but administrating these networks must be a real nightmare.

Hmmm -- where to start with this one? Sounds like a fantastic plan but I can't see any of the companies being very interested in doing this project unless the government put together a very attractive deal. The thought of trying to collect money from 72,000 new villages across the country is probably a companies worse nightmare.
