Zulhas: US-Israel Attack on Iran is Barbaric Beyond Reason, but We Can Do Nothing
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The General Chairman of the National Mandate Party (PAN), Zulkifli Hasan, described the United States (US) and Israel’s attacks on Iran as barbaric actions.
“Sometimes, Mr Hatta, I have trouble sleeping when I see America-Israel attacking Iran; I can’t sleep. It’s beyond reason, beyond the boundaries we have as humans. I think it’s barbaric,” said Zulhas during his speech at the First National Working Meeting of PAN at the PAN Central Executive Board, Kalibata, Pancoran, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (31/3/2026).
“And we can’t do anything about it, except pray. That makes it hard for us to sleep,” Zulhas stated.
Zulhas also highlighted the impact of the conflict spreading to various regions of the world, including Europe, the Middle East, to Asia and ASEAN.
He noted that several countries are beginning to be affected, such as the Philippines, which has declared an energy emergency.
“If we look again at Pakistan and India, queues for fuel are starting to snake. Even blackouts. In Latin America, there are blackouts; people are cycling because there’s no petrol anymore,” he stressed.
Zulhas invited all parties to be grateful that Indonesia has President Prabowo with a far-sighted vision.
He acknowledged that the Head of State’s ideas were once doubted, but now they are starting to prove effective.
Zulhas emphasised the importance of self-sufficiency programmes, both in food and energy, so that Indonesia is more sovereign and not dependent on imports.
“People must have laughed, because it’s comfortable, right? So, all this time, if there’s none, we import, so we’ve been lulled into complacency,” he said.
In addition, he also stressed the importance of downstreaming as a strategic and fundamental policy to strengthen the national economy.
According to him, various such programmes are visionary, fundamental, and are currently being implemented, including under the coordination of the Coordinating Ministry for Food, which he also leads.
