Zulhas: Technical Regulations are the Foundation for Forestry Carbon Trading

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Coordinating Minister for Food, Zulkifly Hasan, believes that accelerating the translation of Carbon Economic Value (NEK) policies into technical regulations is a vital foundation for the implementation of carbon trading within Indonesia’s forestry sector.

This follows the approval by the Minister of Forestry regarding the issuance of carbon units through the Non-Certified Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction (Non SPE-GRK) scheme, which was launched in Jakarta on Monday.

“I am truly grateful and appreciate the Ministry of Forestry for moving quickly to translate Presidential Regulation (Perpres) 110 of 2025 regarding Carbon Economic Value into its operational regulations,” he stated in a joint statement with the Indonesian Ministry of Forestry.

Furthermore, the man affectionately known as Zulhas noted that the Ministry of Forestry is acting swiftly to follow up on the mandate of Presidential Regulation Number 110 of 2025 through the drafting of technical regulations that serve as the basis for carbon trading operations.

He assessed that this step proves that the implementation of carbon trading is no longer stuck at the planning stage.

According to him, the launch of carbon trading schemes accompanied by ready-to-run projects serves as tangible evidence of the government’s commitment to developing a green economy.

“On the 9th, we will launch the SRUK (Carbon Unit Registry System),” said Zulhas.

He also emphasised that the implementation of carbon trading is proof of the government’s shared commitment to proactively managing climate change policies.

He continued that the presence of regulations in the forestry sector is also expected to serve as a model for acceleration in other sectors.

“This is concrete evidence of our collective commitment to proactively overseeing climate policy,” said the Coordinating Minister for Food.

Additionally, he added that the Ministry of Forestry Regulation Number 6 of 2026 regarding the procedures for carbon trading in the forestry sector is expected to provide legal certainty for carbon trading activities.

He expressed hope that the acceleration of similar regulations would also be undertaken in other sectors, so that the national carbon economic value ecosystem can develop more integrally and be capable of attracting green investment.
