Zulhas Simplifies Waste Management Procedures: Presidential Order
The Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs, Zulkifli Hasan (Zulhas), stated that the government is simplifying waste management procedures in Indonesia. According to him, this aligns with the directives issued by President Prabowo Subianto.
This initiative is being undertaken because, over the past 11 years, the development of waste processing facilities has failed to keep pace with demand due to long and complex procedures. He revealed this during the inauguration of the start of the Bogor Raya Waste-to-Energy (PSEL) construction in Galuga, Bogor Regency, recently.
“Previously, waste management was complicated because each entity operated independently,” Zulhas said, as reported on Monday (21/09/2026).
He explained that this step is also an effort to accelerate the construction of waste processing facilities in various regions across Indonesia. One of the facilities currently under construction is the Bogor Raya Waste-to-Energy (PSEL) plant in Galuga.
“Following the President’s order, procedures and regulations are being simplified. We want the waste problem to be resolved, not complicated by regulations,” he remarked.
He further explained that the simplification is being implemented for waste management in areas classified as being in an emergency state, such as the Galuga landfill (TPAS Galuga).
“TPAS Galuga is in an emergency condition. Therefore, we are prioritising areas that are in crisis and having a negative impact on the community. A problem of this magnitude cannot be solved by Bogor alone. The central government must step in, and we must work on this together,” he concluded.
