Zulhas Says PAN Will Always Stand With and Support Prabowo
Zulkifli Hasan, the General Chairman of the National Mandate Party (PAN), reiterated his commitment to a party that is loyal, steadfast, and at the forefront of backing President Prabowo Subianto’s government. He spoke at a PAN Central Executive Board Iftar gathering in Jakarta on Friday evening, 6 March. He welcomed Prabowo’s plan to promptly convene a meeting to discuss various scenarios of the impact of escalating global conflict, particularly the United States–Israel attack on Iran. ‘PAN will always be with President Prabowo. We are not a party that only turns up when the weather is good. PAN is a loyal, steadfast party, and in any situation we stand at the front line, supporting the government’s strategic steps in the interests of the people and the nation,’ said the Coordinating Minister for Food. Zulhas acknowledged that the current global geopolitical turmoil has the potential to push up commodity prices, disrupt international supply chains, and affect fiscal stability and national food security. In this context, Indonesia needs calm, rational leadership capable of making strategic decisions quickly. ‘The most crucial thing is to safeguard the economic sector, energy resilience, and what is directly my responsibility: national food security. This is not merely about stomachs; it is about national sovereignty,’ Zulhas said. He stressed that amid global uncertainty, Indonesia must not rely on international markets for the basic needs of its people. ‘We will continue to push for comprehensive food self-sufficiency: rice self-sufficiency, corn self-sufficiency, fish self-sufficiency, and other strategic commodities. Farmers must be strong, production must rise, distribution must be efficient. The state must ensure food is available and affordable for all Indonesians,’ he said. He also praised Prabowo’s efforts together with the Foreign Minister and the diplomatic team in seeking global peace solutions, particularly in advancing Palestinian independence. He emphasised that Indonesia must continue to speak out loudly for peace so that conflicts do not develop into a larger-scale war. ‘Indonesia’s role is always awaited in every global peace endeavour. PAN fully supports the diplomatic steps of President Prabowo—the most important thing is that national interests remain protected without neglecting humanitarian responsibilities,’ Zulhas said.
