That was stated by Zulhas at the signing ceremony of the cooperation agreement between the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government and PT Danantara Investment Management at the Office of the Coordinating Ministry for Food, Central Jakarta, on Monday (4/5/2026).

“Jakarta receives special attention from the President. We are called almost every week about waste, mainly Bantargebang,” said Zulhas.

According to him, the current waste situation in Jakarta is indeed urgent and needs to be addressed immediately. With a generation of around 9,000 tonnes per day, most of the waste still relies on the open dumping system at Bantargebang, whose capacity has been exceeded.

Zulhas assessed that direct attention from the President provides strong impetus for the government to accelerate comprehensive and integrated waste management.

“This is a firm directive from the President that our waste management must be handled seriously and not prolonged,” he said.

As a follow-up, the government is pushing for the acceleration of the construction of waste processing facilities into electricity or Waste-to-Energy Power Plants (PSEL). One of them is through cooperation between the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government and Danantara.

He emphasised that the project is not just an ordinary programme, but a real commitment from the government in addressing public complaints regarding waste issues.

“This is a contract with millions of Jakarta residents. The waste that has been piling up and smelly will be transformed into useful electricity,” he stated.

Zulhas hopes that with this acceleration, Jakarta’s waste problem can begin to be resolved in the coming years. The government also targets achieving 100% national waste management by 2029, with Jakarta as one of the main focuses.

“One hundred percent of Indonesia’s waste processed properly, insyaallah, pray that it will be achieved in 2029. Perhaps what remains unfinished is just the household waste; besides that, we will be able to complete it,” he added.
