Zulhas Reveals 6,877 Additional SPPG Points Cause Rp1 Trillion Monthly Waste

The government has uncovered indications of significant bloat in the establishment of Nutritional Fulfilment Service Unit points for the Free Nutritious Meal programme, potentially squandering up to Rp12 trillion annually. This finding is one of the main reasons the government is restructuring the management of President Prabowo Subianto’s flagship initiative. Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan stated that while the MBG programme is an excellent strategic policy to improve public nutrition, its implementation has encountered problems requiring comprehensive reform. Speaking in Central Jakarta on Thursday, 11 June 2026, Zulhas highlighted the alleged practice of buying and selling SPPG points, which caused the number of MBG kitchens to soar well beyond the initial plan. He noted that the original plan was for 21,000 points, but the number has now reached 27,877 points—a surge of 6,877 points. Data from the Head of the National Nutrition Agency, Nanik S Deyang, indicates this addition carries a massive budgetary burden. Based on government calculations, each point requires operational costs of approximately Rp6 million per month. Zulhas explained that the 6,877 additional points result in excess monthly spending of over Rp1 trillion, amounting to Rp12 trillion annually. Beyond the general bloat, the government also found irregularities in the designation of SPPG locations in underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost regions. An area initially mapped as requiring around 2,000 kitchen points ballooned to 8,617 points. Zulhas observed that 6,138 of these points already have decrees from the National Nutrition Agency, meaning investors have placed them as bank collateral, necessitating immediate restructuring to resolve the issue.
