Zulhas Pursues Beef and Garlic Self-Sufficiency with These Methods

The government is pursuing food self-sufficiency, particularly for beef and garlic commodities. Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan stated that several strategies will be implemented to realise this programme. For the beef self-sufficiency programme, the government will accelerate the import of breeding cattle from countries such as Brazil and Europe. Zulkifli Hasan said the government will issue a Presidential Regulation to accelerate the import of breeding cattle. “We still import 1 million cattle. We have proposed a Presidential Regulation for rapid development. Later, we will cooperate with several countries so we can bring in breeding cattle,” Zulkifli Hasan said at the Directorate General of Taxes building in Jakarta on Friday. “It could be from Europe, from Brazil, and others. It is not easy to obtain breeding cattle,” he added. As for garlic, the government will begin mass planting in 17 provinces. The national police will also support the mass garlic planting programme. “We are planting. On the 19th, led by the National Police Chief and others, we will launch with the President the start of garlic planting in 17 provinces,” he stated.
