Zulhas Praises Pramono-Tito Karnavian: Bantargebang Sorted, Indonesia Sorted

The government is giving special attention to Jakarta in the national waste management programme. This is inseparable from the large volume and impact it causes. As the capital, resolving problems in this area is considered to have an impact on national perceptions.

Cross-ministry and regional government cooperation is needed to accelerate this programme. Intensive coordination continues to ensure progress runs according to targets.

“Jakarta is indeed a special concern. Because if Bantargebang is not sorted, even if all of Indonesia is sorted, people will say the rubbish is not yet sorted,” said Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan at the Coordinating Ministry for Food Affairs, on Monday (4/5/2026).

He described that Jakarta’s success would influence national success.

“But if Bantargebang is sorted, even if the others are not yet sorted, people will say the rubbish is already sorted,” he said.

This is the main reason the government is giving higher priority to Jakarta. Zulhas also appreciated the collaboration that has been built between the central government and the region, in this case between DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung and Interior Minister Tito Karnavian.

“I appreciate the real commitment of Mr Jakarta Governor and Mr Interior Minister who continue to support waste management becoming waste to energy,” he said.

He emphasised that intensive cooperation is a factor in the current acceleration.

“I went to his office once, he came here twice, three times. This shows seriousness in solving the problem,” said Zulhas.
