Zulhas: Prabowo's Meetings with National Figures Respond to Global Developments

Zulkifli Hasan, the chairman of the National Mandate Party (PAN), or Zulhas, says the sequence of meetings between President Prabowo Subianto and several national figures at the State Palace is a step in response to the increasingly heated geopolitical dynamics globally. He made the remarks during a buka puasa event at the PAN Central Leadership Council Building in South Jakarta on Friday night (6 March 2026). ‘In the last few days, you have witnessed a marathon of meetings with ministers, national figures, and even with former presidents, vice-presidents, and former foreign ministers,’ Zulhas said. On the following day, the meetings also involved figures from various religious organisations. Among them were the Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), the central leadership of Muhammadiyah, the Rais ‘Aam of PBNU, and other scholars. He added that there was also a large meeting that continued past midnight with leaders of pesantren and other religious figures. ’Last night there was a large meeting that extended past 12 o’clock midnight with the leaders of pesantren, kiai, habaib, and other religious leaders, numbering almost 200 people,’ he said. He noted the rising tensions in global geopolitics, including the joint attack by the United States and Israel on Iran. ‘The joint attack by the United States and Israel on Iran will certainly have broad impacts, including for Indonesia, even though geographically we are distant.’
