Zulhas: Prabowo Targets Protein Self-Sufficiency to Be Achieved This Year

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.COM - The Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs, who is also the General Chairman of the National Mandate Party (PAN), Zulkifli Hasan or Zulhas, revealed that President Prabowo Subianto is targeting food self-sufficiency in the protein sector. “This year the government aims to achieve protein self-sufficiency, such as fish, chicken, eggs, and other protein sources,” he said. The target was announced during a Buka Bersama at the Central Leadership Council Building (DPP), South Jakarta, on Friday evening, 6 February 2026. Last year, Indonesia was assessed as having achieved self-sufficiency in rice and corn. Looking at last year’s performance, Zulhas is optimistic that protein self-sufficiency will be achieved with infrastructure development. “The government will also build 1,000 fisher villages equipped with facilities such as ice plants and cold storage,” he said. “Fishermen will be able to store fish for up to six months, thereby increasing their bargaining power,” he explained.
