JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan has revealed the reason behind the price increase of MinyaKita in the market. The rise has occurred because the supply has been absorbed for the Food Assistance Programme.

The Food Assistance Programme distributes 10 kilograms of rice and 2 litres of cooking oil to 33.2 million Recipient Families. The assistance is provided twice.

“So, yesterday there were 33 million food assistance recipients, times 2 litres, times 2 months. Well, it uses MinyaKita. That’s what’s been sucked up, so in the market it’s a bit reduced, thus the price has risen,” said Zulhas during a press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday (22/4/2026).

This situation has caused stocks in traditional markets to decrease. As a result, prices have also risen in several regions.

The government has then changed the distribution scheme for the assistance. MinyaKita is no longer the only brand used.

Perum Bulog is now permitted to distribute other brands of cooking oil at the same price. This policy is expected to maintain availability and price stability in the market.

“So we’ve found the reason why it rose, because of the food assistance for 33 million times 2 months, times 2 litres,” said Zulhas.

“Oh, that’s a lot. The ones from traditional markets have shifted to food assistance,” he continued.

The popularity of MinyaKita has increased in recent times. The public prefers that product over other brands.

“But MinyaKita is too popular now. Everyone buys MinyaKita,” said Zulhas.
