Zulhas Ensures Food Stocks Are Safe and Prices Under Control
Jakarta – The Coordinating Minister for Food Security (Menko Pangan) Zulkifli Hasan has assured that national food stocks are safe ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 AH / 2026 CE. After attending a limited meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday, Zulkifli reported the latest condition of food stocks amid global uncertainty. ‘If the food is available,’ he said. Zulkifli noted that Indonesia still imports for several commodities such as soybeans and wheat. However, he said the escalation in the Middle East has not shown a significant impact on the food sector, particularly in terms of price. Furthermore, he conveyed that the President has urged that food prices remain stable, especially ahead of Eid al-Fitr 2026. ‘Food is available, prices are affordable and must not rise,’ he said. Then, corn is in a surplus position of 4.99 million tonnes. In terms of animal protein, chicken meat is in surplus of 586 thousand tonnes and chicken eggs 267 thousand tonnes. Additionally, the government controls rice reserves of around 3.5 million tonnes managed by Perum Bulog, providing a strong cushion to maintain price stability in the market. Zulkifli is optimistic that the public can celebrate Eid without worrying about price increases or shortages of staple goods. ‘Safe, stock is safe. Our rice is sufficient. Four million (tonnes), more than enough,’ he added.
