Zulhas Calls Head of BGN to Request Eggs in MBG Menu Twice a Week
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan (Zulhas) called the Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Dadan Hindayana, while inspecting food prices at Palmerah Market in West Jakarta on Wednesday morning (13/5/2026).
To Dadan, Zulhas requested that in the coming days, the MBG menu should use eggs so that the price of this commodity at the farm level could rise in line with the Producer Reference Purchase Price (HAP).
“Mr Dadan, you have the authority here. This is the egg price, sir, below HAP. There is a request from the layer farmers, BGN should use eggs in the next few days, sir, so that the price can match HAP,” said Zulhas at Palmerah Market.
“Please help, sir, so that the layer farmers can keep smiling,” he added.
On the other hand, he also received complaints from layer chicken farmers because the farm-gate egg price was only Rp 20,000 per kilogram, below the producer HAP of Rp 26,500 per kilogram.
Zulhas said that when egg prices are low, the public or consumers do feel happy.
However, that situation serves as a danger alarm for farmers because they incur losses.
Amid farm-gate egg prices below HAP, farmers also face high feed prices.
“They are hit twice: the price at the farm, usually they receive Rp 23,000, now some receive Rp 20,000. That means a loss. But corn prices are rising, feed prices are rising,” explained Zulhas.
The General Chairman of the National Mandate Party (PAN) said that the drop in egg prices, which delights consumers, is only temporary.
Because that condition has the potential to cause farmers to go bankrupt and close their businesses.
“Because if farmers close, it’s just a matter of time before prices rise again. That means supply and demand,” he said.
The plunge in egg prices is partly caused by abundant stock that is not balanced with market demand.
Therefore, Zulhas asked Dadan to use eggs as the MBG menu twice a week.
