Zulhas Asks PAN Faction to Vote in Unison with the DPP
Chairman of the National Mandate Party (PAN), Zulkifli Hasan, has issued several instructions to the PAN faction in the DPR. One of the main directives is that all PAN legislators express views and opinions that are in line with the decisions of the party’s Central Executive Board (DPP).
The man, affectionately known as Zulhas, emphasised that PAN is a unified organisation, so policies, decision-making, and even political statements must reflect a common stance. He reminded them to avoid open disagreements within the party.
“Because we are a unified entity, we must ensure that we do not have differing opinions,” said Zulhas after attending an iftar event with the PAN faction at the DPR, MPR, and DPD complex, on Thursday, 26 February 2026.
In addition to political solidarity, Zulkifli also instructed the PAN faction to pay special attention to the condition of the community during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr. He asked the legislators to actively share and ensure that no citizens lack food.
“We must ensure that no one is in need and that no one is unhappy,” said Zulkifli, who also serves as Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs.
The directive was issued amidst internal dynamics within PAN regarding the discourse on the 2029 General Election. Two PAN politicians who spoke to Tempo in early February said that Zulkifli had felt uncomfortable after his name was mentioned as a potential running mate for Prabowo Subianto in the 2029 Presidential Election.
According to the source, PAN and Zulkifli were reprimanded by figures within the Presidential Palace for allegedly speaking too early about the candidacy. However, both were reluctant to name the party that issued the reprimand.
Zulkifli himself stated that the instruction for all policies and internal statements to be based on collective decisions aims to maintain the party’s consistent stance. “If there are differences, it will be complicated,” he said.
Previously, PAN Deputy Chairman Eddy Soeparno openly proposed Zulkifli Hasan as a candidate for vice president to accompany Prabowo in the 2029 General Election.
Eddy believes that nominating the chairman as a candidate will revitalise the party’s machinery and boost PAN’s electability. “If you ask me today, I support Bang Zulhas,” said Eddy on 5 February 2026.
