JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan (Zulhas) stated that the price of red cayenne pepper at Pasar Minggu in South Jakarta remains Rp 100,000 per kilogram.

Zulhas visited Pasar Minggu together with Trade Minister Budi Santoso, known as Busan, to assess food prices following Eid al-Fitr.

During the visit, Zulhas approached several traders of major food commodities, from rice, chicken, eggs, to kitchen spices.

The price of red cayenne pepper is still high and far exceeds the Sales Reference Price (HAP) set in National Food Agency (Bapanas) Regulation Number 12 of 2024, which is Rp 40,000-Rp 57,000 per kilogram.

Cayenne pepper prices had indeed plummeted about two weeks before Ramadan 1447 Hijriah.

Zulhas did not explain when the red cayenne pepper price would decrease.

“This is now here, and tomorrow I will check in Lampung, also in Central Java and elsewhere,” Zulhas said.

Meanwhile, several other food commodities at Pasar Minggu were observed to be stable.

For example, the price of curly red chillies is around Rp 50,000 per kilogram.

Then, chicken eggs are Rp 32,000 per kilogram, slightly above the HAP of Rp 30,000 per kilogram.

“Overall, supplies and prices are still under control,” Zulhas stated.

Because there are food commodities that have not yet decreased after Eid, the government through state-owned enterprises (BUMN) in the food sector will hold a market in the Monas area today.
