Zimbabwean shot dead over heroin

JAKARTA (JP): City police shot dead a Zimbabwean national at his rented home in Perbanas residential complex in Kuningan, South Jakarta, after he was caught in possession of heroin and tried to escape police arrest on Thursday.

City police detective for drug crimes, Adj. Sr. Comr. Carlo, identified the suspect as Pieter Tonday, 37, whom police had caught in possession of 200 grams of heroin at his home at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.

"He is a Zimbabwean, according to his passport. From the traces of heroin we found in the suspect's toilet, he had flushed a lot of heroin down the toilet. We caught him with 200 grams of heroin, but he tried to escape," Carlo told The Jakarta Post on Friday.

"We fired warning shots, but he kept going. So, we shot him." (ylt)
