Zig-zag Car Convoy on Becakayu Toll Road Ends with Police Warning
An action of zig-zag car convoys was carried out by a group of vehicles along the Bekasi-Cawang-Kampung Melayu Toll Road (Becakayu) in East Jakarta. The perpetrators have been admonished by the police and issued apologies.
An amateur video circulating widely on social media shows five cars driving together in a convoy along the Becakayu toll road in East Jakarta on Wednesday night (4 March). The vehicles appear to move between lanes in a zig-zag pattern from one lane to another, even shifting from lane one to lane three in alternation.
The dangerous act made the toll road appear to be blocked by the convoy. Although traffic on the toll road appeared relatively quiet, the zig-zag action was still deemed dangerous.
Such driving behaviour could lead to accidents, particularly if other vehicles travel at high speed. The act also drew condemnation from the public who felt concerned about undisciplined driving on the toll road.
Police admonishment
The police have met with the drivers of the zig-zagging cars on the Becakayu Toll Road. The police gave only a verbal warning to the drivers.
“For the drivers who performed zig-zag on the Becakayu Toll Road in East Jakarta, we have met them. They were only given a verbal warning and an educational exhortation not to repeat the act,” said AKBP Reiki Indra Brata Manggala, Head of the Traffic Patrol Unit (PJR) of Ditlantas, Metro Jaya Regional Police, quoted by Antara, Saturday (7 March 2026).
The police identified the drivers. Reiki said the drivers had been admonished.
“For the drivers who performed zig-zag on the Becakayu Toll Road, East Jakarta, we issued a verbal warning. The individuals also issued apologies for driving recklessly,” said Reiki.
Reiki said the drivers were not fined. He said the police took action in the form of a verbal admonition.
“So they were only given a verbal warning along with an educational exhortation,” he added.
The police disclosed the motive of the zig-zag drivers. The police stated that they did it to create content.
“The motive is that they were creating content as well as trying to sell the car because some of them work in car trading,” said Reiki.
