Zettabyte Donates AI Computing and Advanced AI Software to National Sun Yat-sen University
Kaohsiung City, (ANTARA/PRNewswire) - Zettabyte Co., Ltd. (“Zettabyte”), a global AI computing company, today announced the donation of AI computing technology and software to National Sun Yat-sen University (“NSYSU”), a national research university located in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Both parties have signed the donation agreement on the NSYSU campus. This donation provides faculty and students across the university with access to the zSUITE platform and available AI computing resources.
zSUITE is used to manage and monitor computing clusters, allowing administrators to view system operations and computing resource allocation across the university in an integrated manner. With zSUITE, faculty, students, and research teams can focus more on teaching, research, and experimentation without having to spend time ensuring that computing systems remain operational.
NSYSU comprises 10 faculties covering various fields, ranging from humanities, science and engineering, management, marine sciences, and social sciences to medicine, semiconductors, and international finance. The university established the Artificial Intelligence Research and Industry Promotion Centre in 2019 and has since continued to drive the development of AI education and research, as well as collaboration between academia and industry. As AI research and application rapidly evolve, various faculties and departments on campus are gradually building their own GPU computing capacities to support lectures, student projects, and various funded research programmes.
Based on independent industry analysis, the computing requirements for training leading AI models have doubled approximately every six months in recent years. Computing capacity has now become a critical factor in a nation’s competitiveness. Taiwan has set a target to become one of the world’s top five leading computing hubs. To achieve this goal, the government is developing the New Ten Major AI Infrastructure Projects.
The university plays a significant role in this endeavour. In addition to producing the engineers who will later build and operate national infrastructure, universities are becoming hubs for an increasing number of systems that support research activities. Through this donation, students will have the opportunity to use various cluster management tools in a real-world computing environment before completing their studies. Consequently, they can enter the workforce with hands-on experience using systems that are also utilised in the industry.
“Taiwan’s future AI technology leaders are currently honing their skills in leading-edge AI laboratories across various universities,” said Kenneth Tai, Founder and Chairman of Zettabyte. “The best contribution we can make is to open access for universities, faculty, researchers, and students to the most advanced professional AI computing technology and software.”
“This donation of computing technology and AI software is expected to drive Taiwan’s technological progress, foster scientific breakthroughs, and build a strong foundation for the next generation of AI talent,” said Rocky Lee, Director of Zettabyte and the primary designer of this AI computing donation programme.
Chih-Wen Kuo, Senior Vice President of NSYSU, stated that the university will continue to integrate its existing AI and HPC (High-Performance Computing) resources and strengthen industry collaboration through technology exchange and talent development. This step aims to provide an increasingly reliable computing environment to support teaching and research activities. The university will also encourage researchers from various disciplines to utilise AI and HPC in the research and development of innovative applications, while producing more AI and HPC talent for Taiwan.
“AI development requires not only algorithms and applications but also the support of a stable and reliable computing environment,” said Chun-Wei Tsai, Associate Vice President of Library and Information Services and Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at NSYSU. “Through this collaboration, faculty and students from various disciplines can utilise computing resources more optimally, while developing skills that combine theoretical understanding with practical experience.”
