Zero Halinar Initiative: Surabaya Prison Joint Raid Confiscates Mobile Phones and Weapons
East Java’s Directorate General of Corrections (Kanwil Ditjenpas) conducted a large-scale joint raid at Surabaya Class I Prison in Medaeng, Sidoarjo on Monday evening (25 May). Officers seized various prohibited items ranging from mobile phones to dangerous metal objects. The operation, which began at 7 PM WIB, was led by Acting Head of East Java’s Ditjenpas Kanwil, M Ulin Nuha, and involved personnel from Batalyon-A Pelopor Sat Brimob Polda Jatim, Waru Police Station, and Waru Military District Command. Authorities thoroughly searched all inmate living quarters and personal belongings, securing over a dozen items that could threaten security. Confiscated items included two mobile phones and chargers, illegal electrical wiring, stainless steel spoons, nail clippers, glass bottles, gas lighters, razors, and various active metal objects. All seized items were inventoried and documented in a search report for immediate destruction. Acting Head M Ulin Nuha stated the surprise operation is a proactive measure and a concrete commitment to implementing the Zero Halinar programme (mobile phones, corruption, narcotics). ‘Joint raids are a tangible step to prevent security and order disruptions. We are fully committed to creating a clean correctional environment across all East Java facilities,’ Nuha said. In line with this, Surabaya Class I Prison Chief Tristiantoro Adi Wibowo assured internal measures would be tightened post-raid to prevent prohibited items from re-entering. The operation proceeded safely and smoothly as part of the Minister of Immigration and Corrections’ Action Programme and the Director General of Corrections’ Daily Directive.
