Zeng He photos at Petra University

A photography exhibition that examines the impact of the famous 15th Century Chinese explorer Zheng He is on show at the Petra Christian University of Surabaya until Tuesday.

The exhibition displays photos taken by National Geographic Magazine Indonesia photographer Michael Yamashita, who follows Zheng's epic journeys to 16 countries from China to Indonesia to Africa.

Yamshita, who has been working for the National Geographic Society since 1997, traveled 16,000 kilometers along the route.

Many buildings have been constructed to commemorate Zheng's voyage, including the Cheng Ho mosque in Surabaya, East Java, which was built by Indonesian-Chinese descents.
