Zelenskyy: Ukraine to Discuss Ceasefire Proposal on 9 May with US
Moscow (ANTARA) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Thursday that Ukraine and the United States will discuss a ceasefire proposal for the period of the Russian Victory Day celebrations held on 9 May. On Wednesday, Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump, informed him of his willingness to declare a ceasefire during the Victory Day celebrations. “I have instructed our representatives to contact the US president’s team and find out the details of Russia’s proposal for a short-term period of calm,” Zelenskyy said on Telegram. Putin and Trump held a phone call on Wednesday at Russia’s initiative, marking their 12th such conversation since Trump took office in 2025. Earlier that day, Rodion Miroshnik, special envoy of the Russian Foreign Ministry for crimes of the Kiev regime, said that Ukraine has shown no willingness to make peace and is instead intensifying attacks on civilian targets in Russia.
