Jakarta (ANTARA) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has extended Eid al-Fitr greetings for 1447 AH while expressing concern over the war raging in the Persian Gulf region during Ramadan and solidarity with countries affected by attacks.

“Eid al-Fitr greetings to all Muslims in Ukraine and around the world,” Zelenskyy stated via social media platform X, as monitored in Jakarta on Saturday.

In his statement, he expressed sorrow that during Ramadan, a war with significant global repercussions is unfolding in the Middle East and that “Iran’s horrific attacks, with drones and missiles, have struck peaceful cities”.

“For the people of Ukraine, who also face such challenges every day, it is important that terror will not prevail anywhere in the world and that lives must be protected in every region,” he said.

To that end, the Ukrainian President stated that his country will “soon offer security partnerships to the countries hit by those attacks, and Ukrainian teams are already on site to work on strengthening life protection”.

Zelenskyy explained that the tensions from such battles are also experienced by Muslims in Ukraine, who are currently celebrating Eid al-Fitr amid a war with Russia that has entered its fifth year.

He also highlighted the difficulties faced by the Tatar community in Crimea, which is predominantly Muslim, as they are “forced to celebrate the holiday under occupation” since Russia entered the Crimean Peninsula in 2014.

The Ukrainian President expressed hopes that all Muslim families will always be enveloped in peace, strength, and prosperity.

“May this holiday bring blessings and strengthen faith and cooperation among those who always defend life. May peace be closer for everyone!” Zelenskyy said.
