Zelenskyy calls talks with US envoys "very substantive"
Kyiv (ANTARA) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Sunday (6/9) that talks with the United States envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, were “very substantive.”
The two sides discussed the resumption of negotiations on the Russia-Ukraine conflict, security and economic guarantees for Ukraine, and a winter aid package, Zelenskyy told journalists at a press conference following the meeting.
“We are counting heavily on air defence and energy support, and we are counting on significant supplies and the opportunity to use American LNG,” Zelenskyy said.
Representatives from European countries, including the United Kingdom, France and Germany, took part in the third round of discussions, Zelenskyy said, adding that the three parties had agreed to meet in the future to continue negotiations.
He also emphasised that efforts are currently under way to revive trilateral talks between Ukraine, the United States and Russia aimed at ending the conflict.
Meanwhile, Witkoff told journalists that the two US peace envoys had achieved “significant progress” in Moscow and expressed hope that trilateral talks would be announced soon.
Witkoff and Kushner departed for Kyiv on Sunday on their first visit to Ukraine after meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.
Delegations from Ukraine, the United States and Russia previously held two rounds of talks in Abu Dhabi on 23-24 January and 4-5 February, followed by another round in Geneva on 17-18 February, in an effort to find a way out to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
The trilateral negotiations subsequently reached an impasse and remain suspended to this day.
