Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated on Tuesday that he met with French President Emmanuel Macron in New York to discuss security cooperation and a winter support package for Ukraine.

In a statement on the social media platform X, Zelenskyy said the talks focused on the provision of additional SAMP/T air defence systems and missiles through funding available under the European Union loan framework.

“We continue to pursue the possibility of producing such air defence systems and missiles in Ukraine, as well as the FREYJA anti-ballistic joint programme with partners. We expect the first results this year,” he said.

Meanwhile, Macron stated that he held “in-depth” discussions with Zelenskyy regarding Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. He warned that such attacks risk leaving millions of families without access to heating and electricity.

“France will stand with Ukraine through the winter, and the G7 energy group will also be mobilised to support it,” Macron said via X.

Macron announced that Paris and Kyiv have signed a contract for the delivery of radar, while France will also provide interceptor missiles to strengthen Ukraine’s air defences.

He also added that he had discussed support for Ukraine with US President Donald Trump, as well as the possibility of a ceasefire in the energy sector and a moratorium in the Black Sea.
