Zelensky Invites Putin to Meeting, Offers Ceasefire to End War
A letter was sent on Thursday (4/6/2026) local time. Zelensky proposed to end the war. “Ukraine proposes to end this war through direct engagement between us and you. I propose a meeting,” Zelensky said in the letter. Zelensky stated a readiness for a full ceasefire while negotiations are underway. “Ukraine is ready for a full ceasefire for the duration of the negotiations,” he added. The proposal followed a massive Russian attack on Ukraine, reported by AFP and Reuters on Tuesday (2/6/2026). Hundreds of drones and dozens of Russian missiles struck Ukraine, according to the Ukrainian Air Force. They said Russia deployed more than 600 drones and dozens of missiles, including ballistic missiles that are difficult to shoot down. In a statement via Telegram on Tuesday (2/6), the Ukrainian Air Force said it detected 656 drones and 73 missiles launched by Russian military forces overnight. Kyiv stated that 602 drones and 40 Russian missiles were shot down or disabled by Ukrainian air defence forces. A Ukrainian Air Force spokesperson further stated that the wave of Moscow’s air strikes also involved eight Zircon hypersonic missiles — likely the largest number of hypersonic missile deployments by Russia during the four-year war. The Zircon hypersonic missile, claimed by Moscow, has a range of up to 1,000 kilometres and can travel at nine times the speed of sound. The Russian Defence Ministry said its forces launched a “massive strike” against Ukrainian defence industry facilities using long-range high-precision weapons. Ukrainian authorities reported that at least 11 people were killed and more than 100 others injured in the barrage of Russian missile and drone attacks on several cities, including the capital Kyiv, by early Tuesday (2/6).
