Zaytun residents not interested in revote

BANDUNG: Registration for a presidential revote at the Al- Zaytun Islamic boarding school in Indramayu regency closed on Thursday with none of the school's residents signing up to recast their ballots.

The revote at the boarding school was scheduled after 24,800 people voted in the July 5 presidential election at polling stations in the school, despite the fact that only 11,565 people were registered to cast ballots at the stations. This huge discrepancy in the number of registered voters and actual voters resulted in allegations of election fraud.

Because none of residents registered for the revote, the West Java General Election Commission (KPUD) has decided that only the 11,565 residents whose names are on the earlier registration list will be eligible to take part in the revote, which will be held on as still unspecified date, said KPUD spokesman Heri Suherman in Bandung on Friday. -- JP
