Zaskia Adya Mecca Also Provides Ambulances at Jakarta Protest Site

Actress Zaskia Adya Mecca arrived at the demonstration site in the Bundaran HI area, Central Jakarta, on Friday (12/6). In addition to bringing food, she also provided three ambulances and medical equipment to the protest location.

“Alhamdulillah, I was able to bring three ambulances and medical equipment as well. I joined this post and realised that the community is collectively gathering logistics; it is wonderful that since 10:00 AM, many people have been sending snacks and drinks, even though we do not know who sent them,” said Zaskia.

Zaskia admitted her presence was driven by anxiety regarding various issues occurring recently. In her view, expressing voices through social media alone is insufficient.

“I am here because of my unease; I feel that something is not right and I want to voice it, and I feel that voicing it individually on social media is not enough,” she stated.

Zaskia subsequently decided to take to the field upon learning that students would be demonstrating. She noted that the five points of the students’ demands aligned with her own concerns.

At 15:00 WIB, a group of students heading towards Bundaran HI was intercepted by joint TNI-Polri security forces near Dukuh Atas. The students urged the authorities to allow them to proceed with the action at Bundaran HI, but the authorities established a blockade to prevent them.

There were five demands brought forward in today’s action. First, a request for the government to stop wasting the State Budget (APBN). Second, to lower the prices of basic necessities and fuel (BBM). Third, to halt the MBG programme and the development of the Merah Putih Village Cooperative. Fourth, to stop civilian militarism, and fifth, a demand for President Prabowo Subianto to stop evading and to acknowledge the government’s mistakes.
