Zaskia Adya Mecca Also Provides Ambulances at Jakarta Protest Site
Actress Zaskia Adya Mecca attended a demonstration at the Bundaran HI area in Central Jakarta on Friday (12/6). In addition to bringing food, she also brought three ambulances and medical equipment to the protest site. “Alhamdulillah, I was able to bring three ambulances and medical equipment, and I headed to this post. I just met everyone here and it turns out the community is rallying to gather logistics. It’s impressive that since 10 a.m., many people have been sending snacks and drinks, and we don’t even know who sent them,” Zaskia said. Zaskia admitted her presence stemmed from unease over various recent issues. According to her, voicing opinions through social media alone is not enough. “I came here out of unease. I feel something is not right and I want to voice it, and I feel that voicing it individually on social media is not enough,” she said. Zaskia then decided to go to the field upon learning that students would be demonstrating. She stated that the students’ five demands aligned with her own concerns. At 3 p.m. WIB, a group of students attempting to reach Bundaran HI was blocked by a joint TNI-Polri security force near Dukuh Atas. The students urged the officers to allow them to hold their action at Bundaran HI, but the officers formed a blockade to stop them. There were five demands brought to the action today. First, demanding the government stop wasteful state budgeting. Second, lower the prices of basic necessities and fuel. Third, halt the MBG programme and the development of the Koperasi Desa Merah Putih. Fourth, stop civilian militarisation, and fifth, demand President Prabowo Subianto stop evading responsibility and acknowledge the government’s mistakes.
