Zarina's dossier completed this week
JAKARTA (JP): Police would send Ecstasy-case suspect Zarina's
dossier to the West Java public prosecutor's office next week,
Jakarta Police Chief Maj. Gen. Hamami Nata said yesterday.
"We hope we can complete the dossier tomorrow so we can send
it next week," Hamami said after inaugurating a police apartment
complex, in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta.
He said police had interrogated several witnesses, including
Zarina's boyfriend, Edwin, and her sister Zamila. "Only one
witness has not yet been questioned."
Zarina was arrested in West Jakarta on Aug. 7 for possessing
29,677 Ecstasy pills. She escaped the next day during a police
escort.
She was re-arrested on Nov. 4 in Houston, U.S., and brought
back to Jakarta two weeks later.
Newspapers reported the TV actress was afforded treatment
befitting a star while in police custody. Her hair was reportedly
styled by well-known hairdresser Johny Andrean. She was taken to
city police headquarters in a BMW. She reportedly sleeps in
"luxurious detention" at the police headquarters.
However, National Police Spokesman Brig. Gen. Nurfaizi denied
Zarina got special treatment. "We chose a BMW car to pick her up
from Soekarno-Hatta Airport simply for safety reasons." He did
not elaborate.
Dozens of reporters visited Zarina on Wednesday. Zarina,
accompanied by her lawyer, Amir Syamsudin, said she was in good
condition.
"You see, Zarina sleeps on a plywood-cover bed," Amir said,
strongly denying allegations her client got special treatment.
City Police Spokesman Maj. Nyoman Suriasta said Zarina was
very cooperative during her interrogation.
Shortly after arriving on Sunday, Zarina was charged with drug
trafficking, immigration violations and bringing weapons in from
overseas without proper papers.
She could not be charged for her escape because there were no
such laws covering such an escape when she did it, police said.
