JAKARTA — Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Correctional Affairs Yusril Ihza Mahendra stated he had not yet been briefed on the details surrounding the case of Andrie Yunus, vice-coordinator of the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (Kontras), who was attacked with acid by an unknown assailant.

“I don’t know yet. I haven’t received information about this,” Yusril said briefly when contacted at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Friday, 13 March 2026.

According to him, his office would conduct further coordination regarding the case.

The incident, reported earlier, involved Kontras activist Andrie Yunus being doused with acid by an unknown person. Dimas Bagus Arya, coordinator of Kontras’s Executive Board, stated that the attack caused Andrie to suffer serious injuries across his body.

“Particularly in the areas of both right and left hands, face, chest, and around the eyes,” said Dimas in an official statement confirmed by Kompas.com on Friday, 13 March 2026.

The event concluded at around 23:00 Western Indonesian Time. Following the acid attack, Andrie was immediately taken to hospital for medical treatment.

From the medical examination results, he suffered 24 per cent burn injuries.

“Based on the information we have gathered, we assess that this acid attack represents an attempt to silence critical voices in society, particularly human rights defenders,” said Dimas.
