Yusril Warns Vigilantism Will Rise if State Fails to Provide Security

Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra has called on the National Police to heighten their vigilance in maintaining public order to prevent vigilante actions. He stated that if the state fails to provide a sense of security, the potential for ‘street justice’ will only grow.

Yusril specifically highlighted recent incidents in Bali and Morowali, Central Sulawesi, where suspected thieves of chickens and a motorcycle were beaten to death by mobs. He noted that in these events, there appeared to be no prevention by law enforcement officers, allowing the crowd to freely assault the victims until they died.
