Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Correctional Affairs, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, stated that the target for completing the Draft Law (RUU) on Asset Forfeiture by December 2026 by the House of Representatives (DPR RI) is in alignment with the government.

This is because, he said, President Prabowo Subianto has already instructed the ministers holding technical responsibility on the government side regarding the Asset Forfeiture Bill to work quickly towards its completion.

“Therefore, both the government and the DPR have the same target, wanting it to be completed by the end of 2026,” Yusril said when met in Jakarta on Wednesday.

So far, he noted, the government is still waiting as the Bill is currently under internal discussion within the House of Representatives (DPR RI).

Once the internal discussions in the DPR are complete, he mentioned that the policy will be submitted to the President, who will then appoint a minister as the government’s representative to discuss the Bill.

If the draft is finalised, the Coordinating Minister noted that the discussions on the Bill would not take long and could potentially be completed within one month.

“Because this Bill also refers to the new Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP). Asset forfeiture is a special criminal law, so its primary framework lies within the new KUHAP,” he said.

Previously, the DPR RI emphasised that the Asset Forfeiture Bill will be passed no later than 15 December 2026, and throughout the process, the DPR is committed to providing space for public aspirations to offer suggestions for the drafting of the Bill.

The Deputy Speaker of the DPR RI, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, along with Saan Mustopa and Cucun Ahmad Syamsurizal, received an audience from the United Pati Community Alliance (AMPB) in the Abdul Muis Room, Nusantara Building, Parliament Complex Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday (27/8), to reaffirm this commitment.

“The time limit at the latest for the Asset Forfeiture Bill will be ratified in the plenary session on 15 December 2026,” Dasco said during the audience with AMPB.

To provide certainty and open space for public oversight, he stated that the DPR would prepare copies of the plenary meeting documents and a written statement regarding this commitment. The input provided by AMPB, he said, will be forwarded to Commission III of the DPR RI as part of the Bill’s discussion process.

Dasco also mentioned that Commission III of the DPR RI is opening opportunities for the public to submit input directly through public hearing meetings (RDPU).

The DPR views public participation as essential to ensure that the formation process of the Asset Forfeiture Bill is transparent, subject to oversight, and results in a strong law that is accountable to the public.
