Yusril States Target for Asset Forfeiture Bill Ratification Aligns with Government Intentions

The Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Correctional Affairs, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, stated that the target for completing the Draft Law (RUU) on Asset Forfeiture by December 2026 by the House of Representatives (DPR RI) is in line with the government’s wishes.

Yusril revealed that President Prabowo Subianto has provided specific instructions to the relevant ministers holding technical responsibilities to work swiftly in completing the regulation.

“Therefore, both the government and the DPR have the same target, wanting it to be completed by the end of 2026,” said Yusril when met in Jakarta on Wednesday (2/9).

At present, the government is in a waiting position as the draft bill is currently undergoing internal discussion within the House of Representatives (DPR RI). Yusril explained that once the internal legislative discussions are concluded, the policy will be submitted to the President.

Subsequently, the President will appoint a minister as the official representative of the government to discuss the bill with the DPR. Yusril is optimistic that the discussion process will not take long once the draft is available.

“Because this bill also refers to the new Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP). This asset forfeiture is a special criminal law, so its foundation lies within the new KUHAP,” he explained. He estimated that discussions could be completed within one month after the final draft is received.

Previously, the leadership of the DPR RI emphasised its commitment to ratifying the Asset Forfeiture Bill no later than 15 December 2026. This was stated by the Deputy Speaker of the DPR RI, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, when receiving an audience from the Pati United Community Alliance (AMPB) at the Nusantara Building, Jakarta, on Thursday (27/8).

“The time limit at the latest for the Asset Forferessure Bill will be ratified in the plenary session on 15 December 2026,” Dasco asserted.

The DPR also promised to open as much space as possible for public aspiration during the drafting process. Dasco stated that Commission III of the DPR RI will facilitate the public to provide input directly through Public Hearing Meetings (RDPU).

This step is taken to ensure that the formation of the Asset Forfeiture Bill is transparent, subject to oversight, and results in a strong and accountable legal umbrella for the community.
