Coordinating Minister for Legal Affairs, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, admitted to receiving substantial public input regarding irregularities in immigration services. “Indeed, I have received a great deal of input from the public that many irregularities still occur, including illegal levies committed by bureaucratic ranks in various places,” said Yusril via a video statement received by CNNIndonesia.com on Friday (5/6). Yusril stated that the uncovering of an alleged extortion case related to foreign nationals’ stay permits and/or gratuity acceptance involving former Deputy Minister of Immigration for 2025-2026 and Director General of Immigration for 2023-2024 Silmy Karim and others by the KPK is a crucial moment for implementing reforms. “Therefore, I order all immigration ranks to cooperate with the KPK, open all data, provide all information, and leave nothing covered up,” he stressed. Yusril supports and encourages the KPK to complete the handling of the alleged corruption case linked to immigration services. “All of this must be revealed as clearly and thoroughly as possible by the KPK in accordance with the authority of the KPK as an independent body that conducts investigations, inquiries, and prosecutions of corruption. I continue to monitor the progress of the investigation into alleged criminal acts of corruption within the immigration ranks,” said Yusril. “I think this must also involve all ranks, both currently the West Jakarta Immigration Office, and previously the DKI Jakarta Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, which is now the Jakarta Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration, to be thoroughly examined, and possibly also examined in other places so that all cases are uncovered for us then to carry out reforms,” he continued. Besides Silmy Karim, the KPK is legally processing seven other suspects. They are Acting Director General of Immigration for the 2024-2025 period, Saffar Muhammad Godam; Director of Stay Permits, Jaya Saputra; Sub-directorate heads at the Directorate of Stay Permits, Bagus Bramantyo and Tessar Bayu Setyaji. Then, Head of Central Jakarta Immigration Office for 2024-2025 and Head of West Jakarta Immigration Office for 2025-2026, Ronald Arman Abdullah; Head of the Limited Stay Permit Status Transfer Team, Juniadi Sri Priambudi; and Staff of the Stay Permit Sub-directorate, Gusti Bernardiansyah. They have been detained for the first 20 days starting from 4 June to 23 June 2026 at the KPK Detention Centre, C1 Branch and the Merah Putih Building. The suspects are charged with violating Article 12 letter e and/or Article 12B of the Law on the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption in conjunction with Article 20 letter c of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code. This case was uncovered by the KPK through a Sting Operation conducted in Jakarta, West Java, and Bali on 2-3 June 2026.
