Yusril Reaffirms Government Has No Plans to Issue Economic Government Regulation in Lieu of Law
JAKARTA — Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Penal Reform Yusril Ihza Mahendra has affirmed that the government has no plan to issue a Government Regulation in Lieu of Law (Perppu) concerning the Republic of Indonesia’s economy.
This clarification was issued by Yusril following coordination with the State Secretariat.
“I also coordinated with the State Secretariat just now, and there is indeed no plan to issue a Perppu related to economic matters as has been widely reported,” said Yusril at the Presidential Palace Complex in Central Jakarta on Friday (13 March 2026).
The Presidential Palace has also not communicated anything regarding this matter.
“Many people have asked me about reports of government plans to issue a Perppu related to economic matters. However, we have never heard this matter discussed, and it has never been brought to our attention,” he added.
For context, a Perppu is typically formed when circumstances of pressing necessity arise. A Perppu represents the President’s subjective authority when the state faces urgent need to resolve matters swiftly.
One example of a Perppu is the regulation allowing Bank Indonesia to finance the state budget deficit through purchases of State Bonds and State Sharia Securities.
