Yusril: Proposal from Vice President on Andrie Yunus Case to Be Discussed with Supreme Court
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra stated that the proposal from Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka regarding the acid attack case against KontraS activist Andrie Yunus will be discussed by the government with the Supreme Court.
In his official broadcast in Jakarta this week, Vice President Gibran deemed it important to have ad hoc judges to try the Andrie Yunus case.
“We, the government, will certainly discuss it with the Supreme Court (MA) to facilitate the proposals and suggestions put forward by the Vice President. Hopefully, there will be a way out to accommodate the suggestions and proposals conveyed by the Vice President,” said Coordinating Minister Yusril in response to reporters’ questions when he was met at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Friday.
On the same occasion, Yusril explained that the possibility of involving ad hoc judges in the acid attack case against Andrie remains open. In the legislation, the involvement of ad hoc judges is explicitly mentioned, particularly in human rights courts and corruption criminal courts.
“It is not closed off for certain cases; ad hoc judges can also be recruited to handle specific cases. And for that, there needs to be a discussion between the government and the Supreme Court,” said Yusril.
Nevertheless, Yusril emphasised that so far, there are no civilian suspects in the Andrie case. The four perpetrators designated as suspects are all TNI soldiers.
Therefore, Yusril explained that the acid attack case against Andrie will be tried by a military court.
“If now, because no civilian suspects have been found, then the trial is entirely a military court, and this is in accordance with the provisions of the Military Court Law,” said Yusril.
The Military Police Centre on Tuesday (7/4) has handed over the case file of the acid attack against Andrie to the Military Prosecutor’s Office II-07 Jakarta.
If deemed complete, the case will soon be handed over to the Military Court II-08 Jakarta for trial.
Meanwhile, the TNI’s Central Inspectorate has designated four TNI soldiers, who are members of the TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS), as suspects at the end of last month.
The four suspects are Captain NDP, First Lieutenant SL, First Lieutenant BHW, and Second Sergeant ES.
