Yusril hopes all parties maintain calm and peace in Aceh
Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra has expressed hope that conditions in Aceh are now conducive and that all parties can maintain a peaceful atmosphere following the unrest during the 21st anniversary of Aceh Peace Day.
“Hopefully the situation in Aceh is now conducive and all parties are maintaining calm, tranquillity and peace,” said Yusril after attending the 81st Anniversary Ceremony of the Republic of Indonesia in Jakarta on Monday.
He said his ministry respects all elements of society in Aceh who equally love the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.
“And of course we will also work together to overcome various shortcomings that exist within society. That is our shared task to improve the situation,” said Yusril.
The appeal was issued after unrest occurred during a dhikr and joint prayer event commemorating the 21st anniversary of Aceh Peace Day in the area of the Baiturrahman Grand Mosque on Saturday (15/8).
Meanwhile, Deputy Governor of Aceh Fadhlullah, in Banda Aceh on Monday, said that the 81st Independence Day commemoration in the region took place safely without disruption. He also asked the people of Aceh to continue maintaining peace.
“We hope that all Acehnese people, wherever they are, let us maintain peace, calm, and most importantly, let us as fellow Acehnese work hand in hand to realise a prosperous and thriving Aceh,” he said.
