Yusril: Handling of ex-Jampidsus case must follow legal principles

Sumedang (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Legal Affairs, Human Rights, Immigration and Corrections (Menko Kumham Imipas) Yusril Ihza Mahendra said the handling of the case involving the former Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) at the Attorney General’s Office must proceed in accordance with legal principles, without disregarding the principles of transparency and justice.

During a working visit to Sumedang, West Java, on Monday, Yusril said law enforcement officials need to act carefully in handling every case so that the legal process remains objective and complies with prevailing regulations.

“An extra degree of caution is indeed required. When the prosecutors receive the handover of this case to conduct the follow-up investigation after the individual was named a suspect, they must still firmly uphold the legal principles concerning law enforcement in the field of corruption,” he said.

He explained that every law enforcement institution must exercise its authority in accordance with the rules so that the legal process runs professionally and public trust can be maintained.

“This is a severe test for us. But as a reality we cannot reject, it must be faced with steadfastness, courage, and the conviction that the law must be upheld to build the trust of all levels of society,” he said.

“Now the police have handed the case over to the prosecutors. The prosecutors must comply with all the rules in enforcing this law, even though the person being investigated is a former official of the prosecution service itself,” he said.

He noted that law enforcement against serving or former state institution officials is nothing new, as similar cases have previously occurred involving figures from other law enforcement institutions.

Yusril also invited all citizens to help oversee the legal process so that it runs objectively, in line with each institution’s authority, and remains grounded in the applicable rules.
